EVLD is the Member of the Month

Eagle River Youth Coalition I remember lazy, languid summer days on the back patio, lying on the hammock, buried in a book?

I remember being so proud when I won the summer reading program in 3rd grade (I still have the Grimm's Fairy Tales book that was the award). Our local libraries open up minds, imaginations, doors and a life-long love of reading, learning and exploring.

This summer - and every day throughout the year - there is something for everyone at the Eagle Valley Library District (EVLD)! From storytimes and summer reading programs for babies, kids, teens, and adults to eBooks, eAudio Books, magazines and DVDs for vacation getaways visiting Colorado State Parks! Discover more at evld.org, shares Tegan Davis, PR Librarian.

Children:
Take a walk on the child side with children's singer/songwriter Eddie Coker as he kicks off EVLD's 2017 Summer Reading Program. Eddie's high-energy program will excite your kids and give them something silly to sing! So if you see only one opera singer sporting a neon wig and singing about an octopus this year, make it Eddie Coker. Your kids won't be snoring during this show! Eddie will be performing on:

Tuesday, June 6 at 1:00pm at the Eagle Public Library
Tuesday, June 6 at 3:00pm at the Gypsum Public Library
Wednesday, June 7 at 1:00pm at the Avon Public Library

Reading Buddies:
Teens volunteer to mentor a young reader in EVLD's Reading Buddies Program. This program pairs a big buddy mentor (students in grades 9-12) with a younger buddy (students in grades 1-3) for 1 hour per week of shared reading for 8 weeks. In addition to the joy of helping a younger child read and succeed, teens are granted the opportunity to develop leadership, problem-solving and communication skills.

Teens:
Teens build up their sense of culinary confidence at the Summer Reading Program Kickoff! Teens in grade 6-12 can participate in a free, hands-on cooking class with local culinary artist and teacher Tracy Miller. Tracy's mission is to add fruits and vegetables to all meals. She is also the host of two culinary television shows on TV8 Vail and is a food contributor to a column in the Vail Daily. Her TV shows include "The Local Dish" where she interviews restaurant chefs and learns how to create their signature dishes. Cooking classes will be held on:

Tuesday, June 6 at 4 p.m. at the Gypsum Public Library
Tuesday, June 6 at 6 p.m. at the Eagle Public Library
Wednesday, June 7 at 6 p.m. at the Avon Public Library

Adults:
Why should kids have all the fun this summer? You can have fun by participating in EVLD's Adult Summer Reading Program from June 5 to August 31. Find great books, share your favorite reads and enjoy engaging events at the libraries. Sign up at the Eagle Valley Libraries, get your bag of goodies and start earning prizes!
