Healthy Kids Colorado Survey

The Healthy Kids Colorado Survey (HKCS) is the standard evaluation method used in the state of Colorado to measure and assess youth behaviors, perceptions, and attitudes. Every two years, The Eagle River Youth Coalition administers the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey to middle and high school students in the Eagle River Valley. Survey results identify youth behaviors and current gaps in services. With this information, all coalition members utilize the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey data in their planning and adjustment of their program offerings to effectively and efficiently meet the changing needs of local youth. Finally, in one of its most important roles, the survey is a tool to identify and develop ways to impact the priority needs facing youth in the Eagle River Valley.

The need for the survey was identified in the late 1990s through the work of the ‘informal’ youth coalition and community members involved in Leadership Vail Valley. The Eagle CARES survey was implemented in 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2005, and the HKCS was administered in 2007 and again in 2009. Both surveys were developed utilizing the important work of Hawkins and Catalano and their Communities that Care Survey.

As a collaborative member-based organization, The ERYC represents numerous youth-serving organizations from across Eagle County.
