Supporting Young Adults

InteGreat!’s goal as a collective is to encourage and propel larger, systemic and social change that none of us can tackle alone. InteGreat! is committed to a long-term vision that requires a long-term community-wide investment. One of four strategies we are using to accomplish this is to support young adults in engaging them in community initiatives, identifying and expanding opportunities for internships and mentorship, and ensuring a productive transition from high school to adulthood.

In 2016, InteGreat! began a partnership with the Colorado Department of Labor Youth Workforce Center in Frisco. Through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Youth Program, we were able to host three interns over the summer. These interns were all very low-income, local youth who went on to continue their professional development through full-time jobs and local college courses as a direct result of their internships with InteGreat! In acknowledgement of this, InteGreat! received a Governor’s Summer Job Hunt Award as did one of our interns for her outstanding work with the Salvation Army. In 2017, we hope to meet the entire regional goal of 6 interns through WIA Youth Program!

InteGreat! partners with AmeriCorps to accomplish larger initiatives that serve to unite the community and place a lens on the power of youth. In 2016, InteGreat hosted its first National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) and Volunteer in Service to America (VISTA) members. The NCCC team, comprised of ten youth from around the country, worked on projects involving over 12 local agencies. Their impact was far-reaching. They inspired three local youth to join AmeriCorps and motivated the agencies they worked with to make youth internships and top priority. InteGreat! was awarded Sponsor of the Round for the Southwest Region. Our first VISTA member serves in a collaborative capacity and recognizes the skills she develops with InteGreat! will carry her into the future. We are currently working on a collaborative concept paper to apply for our second NCCC team and have a VISTA Assignment Description posted and ready for applicants for our second VISTA!

In addition to partnerships at the federal and state levels, InteGreat! aims to serve young people through effectively engaging our local schools. Red Canyon High School (RCHS) offers alternative education for some of the most in-need students in Eagle County. InteGreat!’s new office space is located strategically across the street from RCHS West Campus. We have connected with RCHS administrators to begin better serving their students through convenient internship and professional development experiences that provide wages and credit towards their diplomas. Congruently with Eagle County Schools (ECS), InteGreat! has established internships with Colorado Mountain College (CMC). Our first round of interns through CMC will begin in January 2017. Students will receive course credit in Sustainability Studies and a stipend. In the summer of 2017, we plan to host another 6 interns from the Culinary Arts Department to help with InteGreat!’s Summer Lunch!
